Houston R&B Girl Group, Lady Lux!

Posted by Duece On September - 24 - 2009

ladylux

Blazing onto the music scene is the Houston-based trio, Lady Lux! Meet Brittny, Amaris and Dot – fueled by passion, true talent and an innate responsibility to share their gifts with the world, these ladies bring an energy and sound in which the music industry has been longing.

Brittny hails from Houston, TX and takes charge vocally as the group’s lead singer. She is also phenomenal in writing, vocal producing and arranging. Being heavily involved singing in choirs, dancing, acting and athletics since she was eight, Brit has an adoration for entertainment and is a bona-fide powerhouse. She sings with an incomparable soul and definitely brings a competitive edge in today’s music industry.

Dot is the groups rapper, possessing an unparalleled drive for the arts. Born in Ft. Worth, TX she has been entertaining since she was 10 years old. While in high school, Dot was active in cheerleading, dancing, head drum major, and was also crowned in several beauty pageants. When she attended college, she too joined dance teams and was even a background dancer for artists Frankie J and LeToya Luckett. Her style behind the mic is high energy and fun, coupled with sexiness and a crucial swag.

Amaris functions as second lead and is the creative balance in the group, always instrumental in bouncing off ideas for writing, styling, and choreography. Her sweet soprano voice can be mainly heard on hooks, it’s unique and complements her sophisticated style and personality. Growing up in Leesville, LA Amaris jumped in the entertaining arena at 12 years old. She competed and won several pageants, was a cheerleader, and even went into track and field. She’s been a professional model for 6 years and actress for 1 year with Page Parkes Modeling & Talent Agency, modeling for brands such as Louis Vuitton, Nordstrom’s and Neiman Marcus, to name a few.

Fate struck for these 3 girls when Amaris who was already friends and team members with Dot for the Houston Rockets Power Dancers, met then Rockets Power Dancer Brittny and they soon recognized the same desire to seriously pursue their music careers. They decided to try taking things to the next level with each other and since their worlds have collided, Lady Lux has been a strong, entertainment infused combination for 4 years.

All coming from an music background, the ladies possess an intense work ethic required to succeed in this business. But the road hasn’t been easy. They each have experienced the ups and downs of chasing their dreams. The fact that everyone can hold their own weight and play their role so well makes it that much easier to get their goals accomplished.

Spearheading Lady Lux’s debut album is EMI Music Publishing singer/songwriter Tami LaTrell, who is Executive Producing the project under her company, StarFactory Music Productions. They have been tirelessly working on the project with producers The Ambassadorz (Usher, Ciara), Fatboi (Ying Yang Twinz, Gucci Mane, Yung Jeezy), Andrew Lane (Mary J. Blige, High School Musical), Bryan Michael Cox & Kendrick Dean (Usher, Mary J.Blige, Chris Brown), Troy Taylor (Trey Songz, Whitney Houston, Omarion), Cameron Wallace (Beyonce), Drathoven (Paul Wall, Chamillionaire, Shei Atkins) and more.

Htownclubs.com had the opportunity to sit down and chat with the beautiful and talent “Lady Lux”

HTOWNCLUBS: Tell the world who lady lux is…we are the epitome of the perfection in imperfection…we know that sounds deep and confusing lol, but it’s the truth! We find peace of mind in being continually humbled! Just when you start feeling yourself your nail breaks, or your eyebrow lady isn’t in, better yet the heel of your flyest pair of shoes break in the middle of the mall…on a Saturday!

HTOWNCLUBS: Where are you guys from?

-Britt’s from Houston,TX, Dot’s from Fort Worth, TX, and Amaris is from Leesville, LA

HTOWNCLUBS: How long have you guys been together as a group? How was the group formed?

-We have been together for 4years…April will make 5! We are all former Houston Rocket Power Dancers. That’s where we all met.

HTOWNCLUBS: Collectively, you ladies are known as Lady Lux. What does the name mean and what does it mean to you. And who came up with the name? Lady Lux is short for Ladies of Luxury…it means everything to us! We consider it a luxury to do what we love and share our gifts with the world.  The name was comprised through a collaborative effort and we really wanted something that had a spiritual foundation since we couldn’t keep our original name, Affinity.
What qualities make up Lady Lux? Many qualities make up lady lux, but the quality that is the sum of them all would definitely be Passionate!

HTOWNCLUBS: As triplets, it is hard to know each member on an individual level, especially as new artist. So how would you fill in the blank:
Brittny: Amaris is the second lead, model chick and all around supporting cast if you will lol of Lady Lux”
Amaris: Dot is the rapper, lead choreographer, and business woman of Lady Lux
Dot: Brittny is the lead vocalist, arranger, writer and Diva of lady lux

HTOWNCLUBS: What are you guys motivation behind your music? It is very important to us to make music that means something! We want to make real talk music that generates genuine feelings whether it be happiness, pain, etc.

HTOWNCLUBS: Although you have your own unique style, comparisons are always bound to be tossed around – especially when they concern girl groups. That being said, what vocal group or female entertainers do you think most influenced you? And in what ways do you want to build upon their musical foundation?

First, it would be an honor to be compared to any of the girl groups of the past! Some of the group/entertainers we are influenced by are En Vogue, Xscape, TLC, Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Donny Hathaway, Brian Mcknight. Someone once said that we are standing on the shoulders of giants, so as we further our musical careers we feel blessed to not have to start at the bottom and we hope to continue to make great music!

HTOWNCLUBS: Tell us more about this first 2 single “Counterfeit” & “Winner”. Who wrote and produced them? As we said before our music is real talk music, so both of these songs evolved from our experiences…in order to be a real “winner” you can’t be “counterfeit”…and that’s REAL!!! Counterfeit was written by Lady Lux, Tami LaTrell (Whitney Houston, Keyshia Cole) and Darnell “Big D” Dalton of The Ambassadorz (Usher, Mary J Blige, Mario, Ciara), Winner was written by Tami LaTrell and produced by Drathoven (HitLeague, Chamillionaire, Shei Atkins, Paul Wall) of Houston, TX.

HTOWNCLUBS: What is it that each of you guys bring to the group?

Britt is our lead singer. On stage she’s the diva.out of the box, strong, very sexy,in her own world, not afraid to belt out or push the envelope a bit. Her Texas,”homegirl” swag is also very evident.lol.she has an awesome ear and a strength in writing so her assests come in the form of creating the music. She’s an amazing writer, vocal arranger and producer and she “gets it”. She understands what’s needed musically in this industry,is very serious about being vocally on point and thrives on being different. Her soulful, raspy yet powerhouse voice allow the group’s sound to be versatile. Amaris is our second lead. Being that she’s a model helps the group out tremendously. She’s our model chick! Lol.beautiful, poised, with a clear, straight forward type of voice without all the extras and gimmicks. Her knack for fashion is very needed when it comes to choosing performance attire that fits us. She’s not afraid to change up her hair or try anything that is fashion forward.she keeps our look on point at all times and she KILLS all our photoshoots! We vibe off of her and make her teach us poses.lol. Her modelesque persona on and off stage combined with her voice give the group its classy, mature element. As for Dot, she’s our business woman. She spearheads Lady Lux’s business affairs and even owns her own choreography company,DLS&CO. She’s also an amazing dancer! So when it comes to putting our shows together, she’s lead choreographer and does the staging as well.she knows what the visual aspect of a stage show should be, as well as how to make songs come to life and she puts it together beautifully! Dot is also our rapper. Her style is sexy, with a fun, flirty element. She adds that spunk and hip hop edge to the records that plays a major part in Lady Lux’s sound being like none other.

HTOWNCLUBS: I see that you guys opened up for Latoya Luckett. How was that experience & who else have you guys preformed with or looking forward to preforming and working with?

We are big fans of Letoya, so it was an honor. Some of the other people we’ve performed with are Solange, The Dream, 112, Bone Crusher, Ying Yang Twinz, Youngbloodz, Trinity 5:7, Brian Courtney Wilson. Some of the people we’d love to work with are Neyo, Keri Hilson, Sean Garrett, R. Kelly, Timbaland, Drake, Lil Wayne, Brian Michael Cox, Adele, Paramore. We’d also love to perform with Beyonce, Janet Janet, Keri Hilson, Neyo, Drake.

HTOWNCLUBS: What is it that we should expect to hear and see from Lady Lux? Expect to hear real talk, self-esteem building, powerful music and see high energy, visual, shows!

HTOWNCLUBS: When will we be expecting an album? Top of the year!

HTOWNCLUBS: What is it that Lady Lux is bring that no other female group has brung or is currently bringing to the music world?

We are well rounded…you will get some of everything! High energy that’ll make you wanna dance, but back door and get some soul in there with Counterfeit or sexiness with Lil Bit!

HTOWNCLUBS: Let the people know where they can find your music at right now. You can find our music on our official website, www.ladyluxmusic.com, www.youtube.com/ladylux3, and www.myspace.com/ladyluxmusic

HTOWNCLUBS: What has been the biggest challenge for you or the group? Getting the right team in place! We like to think we have crazy work ethic and until now finding a team to match that hasn’t been easy.

HTOWNCLUBS: If you had to change one thing about your music/group what do you feel would be the best change to benefit the group overall and why? Weeeellll we tend to leave the fellas out because, but that’s not our intention at all we just feel very strongly about women being confident!

HTOWNCLUBS: What are your up-to-date performance plans?  New releases?  Tours? News? We open for Trina at Texas Southern University’s Homecoming concert on October 30th. All our upcoming news and releases can be found on our website, www.ladyluxmusic.com. Make sure ya’ll join our network!

C-Stone Da Bread Winner: Reppin Texas !

Posted by Duece On September - 22 - 2009

cstoneb

As the new development of popular dance singles continues to define a majority of southern hip-hop, one particular entrepreneur gears up to transform that cut-and-dried stereotype. With an extensive amount of street credibility, an illustrious and raw talent, a hard-working demeanor, and a suave southern persona that captures any music fanatic, C. $tone truly exhibits the characteristics of an emerging music mogul of the younger generation. The time exists for Jay-Z, Russell Simmons, 50 Cent, and Diddy to welcome another rising businessman to their line-up.

At the ripe age of 21, C. $tone, born Matthew Stone, has accomplished more than the average young adult working their way up in the entertainment industry. Writing music, producing, event promotions, designing jewelry, and successfully running his company On Point Entertainment for 4 years are just a few of his extensive duties. However, entertainment is definitely nothing unfamiliar into his upbringing. His brother, Willie “J.J.” Stone, is very well-known for his claim to fame at Showtime at the Apollo, racking up a nomination at the 2007 Southern Entertainment Awards, and selling over 4,000 copies to date of his debut album “Impatiently Waiting.” In addition, with an upcoming solo album in the works and a burgeoning clothing line, C. $tone continues to prove that his career is unstoppable.

Music and entertainment ultimately embedded themselves into C. $tone’s life once he began to take notice of his brother’s major talents. Outside of focusing on basketball and football, he began to utilize his time in an impromptu studio that he created from various stereo equipment, including a 5-disc CD player, and a tape deck. Shortly thereafter, he began to develop a small fan base that gradually increased.

SLF_9120 (38)

C. $tone slowly established a notable name for himself in the Central Texas area, but more prominently in his hometown of Killeen. During his junior year at Shoemaker High School, he deejayed at and hosted numerous parties, wrote songs for J.J., recorded mixtapes with his friends, and started making gold grills. However, the sudden death of his father in early 2003 was a major tragedy at the climax of his emerging career. Ultimately, C. $tone harnessed these emotions and used them as a motivation to propel his career to a higher level.

Upon his graduation from high school, C. $tone successfully obtained a full four year football scholarship to Abilene Christian University. After completing one semester, he decided to move his business venture into a bigger and more beneficial city. In 2005, he transferred to Prairie View A & M University where his career reached a much higher peak. Although he continued to play football, music and entertainment shortly became his most integral sports to play. C. $tone’s production/recording company, On Point Entertainment, earned him a position as the C.E.O. J.J. Stone successfully released “Impatiently Waiting” under the company that same year, which garnered him a nomination for Independent R&B Album of the Year.

Over the next few years, C. $tone continued to build up his company as well as establishing himself in the Houston area. He connected with the notable jewelry and grill-maker TV Johnny, and recently played a major role in the grand opening of his store, Johnny Dang & Custom Jewelry in the Galleria Mall. In addition, C. $tone signed a joint venture to release his debut solo album with DYNASTY Entertainment. His launching of the Bread Winner clothing line, On Point Filmz, and On Point Promotions continue to motivate him to advance each project to the next level.

C. $tone exhibits the true qualities and background of a tycoon in the making. He has the experience to back up his specializations, he displays a true businessman mentality, and he continues to speak the truth. C. $tone ultimately changes the atmosphere of the southern hip hop culture as well as the new era of music moguls.

rawlt

Houston’s own Raw’LT is featured on H-Town’s rising stars… Raw’LT was born in Houston, TX. and is a 80′s baby. She was raided by her father beginning at the age of 9 after her father took custody of her and her older sister from her grandmother. That’s where all her independence kicked in. Raw’LT’s father worked a lot so he taught her and her sister how to cook, clean, and wash clothes. She felt that it was weird because they were use to their grandmother doing it all. Throughout her life there where a lot of obstacles that she had to overcome because of the fact that she did not have a mother figure around, so that meant that her and her sister had to figure things out on their own. She also graduated from Sharpstown Senior High School and REP’S the Southwest all day!! Raw’LT first got into rapping when she needed to occupy her mind on the long walks to the bus when she was in middle school. During those long walks she use to freestyle. One day one of her friends asked her who song was she rapping and that’s when she said, “a bulb went off in my head like, if she thinks its someone out (established artist) i might have something here.” Then when she attended high school, she would be the only girl beating on the soda machines and lunch tables, making beats and rhyming. Raw’LT stated that, she never had a problem with getting in front of a crowd and that she remembers jamming MC Hammer when she was younger, but her first love was dancing. Some of Raw’LT’s biggest influences are would be the heavy hitters like Queen Latifah, and McLyte. One of the reasons are because they are still relevant to hip hop and they are legends. Her mom has also been a major influence in her life because she has overcome an obstacle which many never bounce back from. She is a recovering addict and She has shown Raw’LT that there is nothing in the world that GOD can’t fixed. A lot of people want to know why Raw’LT was off the scene for a while and if she is still affiliated with Big Bank Hank Records. Raw’LT’s career at a whole was going great, but on ther other hand her personal life was at a stand still. She says she was focusing on what the streets wanted instead of what she needed. Raw’LT had to step back and evaluate her situation and she decided to take a break from the fast life and focus on family. While doing so Raw’LT ended up getting married (January 22, 2008) to her son’s father (Clover lands G’s own Willean the chemist). Soon after the marriage they decided to expand their family and Raw’LT gave birth to their second son. Now she is certified wifey material and a proud mother of two charming boys, William and Kingston. They are her inspiration and now she is gearing up for football season as the team mom. Raw’LT states, “There is no better feeling than seeing your kids grow and enjoy life.” Raw’LT also says that she is still affiliated with Big Bank Hank an their relationship is still great and that he’s like family to her. She Say’s, “Even if we were to part ways with the business, we would still be good friends. He has had my back when no one else has. He has a great heart and a good spirit. He’s actually working on a project right now. I think the city is going to be surprised when he release his first single. I’m supporting him 100%.” Raw’Lt says that the way that hip hop is it is a open lane for people to express themselves on however they feel and that there is always going to be some people that feel you and some that don’t. She says that she tries not to get caught up with what other artist have going on. Because at the end of the day, everybody has to eat, that they all have families to provide for, so if you can get it get it!!! Everyone knows that Hip Hop is a male dominated industry and that its given that women are going to be picked to pieces from their head down to their feet. Raw’LT states that, “she know some chicks who can smash dudes and can’t get on because everyone already set the standard of who you can’t like. MFs are brain washed. We hear everyone say ” we don’t want to hear a chick spit hard, it’s unreal.” they don’t know what that person has been through. Half these dudes out here spit hard but are really soft. You just have to understand what your dealing with and play it how it go. No guy wants to be defeated by a lady. They have the mash through then mash on syndrome. It’s a mans world, true, but it wouldn’t be shit if i wasn’t in it. Take it how you want. lol…” Raw’LT feels that Houston’s is a wonderful city and that the rap game her is the same as anywhere else and that you have some who make it and some who die trying, also she feels like the females have more to offer now and are about to TAKE OVER!!!!!!!

Raw’LT is one of the few chicks in the game that is different from all the other chicks because she actually wants to see them make it and have things in life. She Say’s, ” I’ve came across broads who wish you well at the same time wishing you fail. A good friend said I always want to see the good in people, its in my nature, I guess that’s the Scorpio in me. But never get it twisted, at the end of the day I have to eat too.”

Showcasing contrasting styles that combine to form their signature sound, the R&B duo known as “Arenbe” (pronounced as Uh-Ren-Be)- a name that symbolizes their future success in a new paradigm of Rhythm and Blues music, have created a new look and sound that is guaranteed to launch them to the top of the entertainment industry. Tate, known for his soft melodic tones and creative vocal ability, and Bobby, known for possessing a powerful voice and smooth raspy sound, were both heavily influenced by Gospel music and the rich musical heritage of the southern region. Bobby also credits his sound to the influence of music from around the world, which he picked up over the years while traveling with his father who was in the Navy. After meeting almost ten years ago through mutual friends, Bobby and Tate joined with a third vocalist to form a group then known as “Intense”. Singing in local talent shows gave the group a platform to display their ability and they quickly began to build in popularity giving the unique opportunity to open for several well-known artist. From 2000 thru 2003, Intense opened up shows for artists such as Carl Thomas, Mya, Mystical, Ideal, Jon B, Dave Hollister, and KC & JOJO and various other established vocalists. They have also performed at celebrity basketball games and a host of other events. One of the highlights of their early career was being added to the list of performers for the 2001 Rhythm & Rims Charity event tour in L.A. (which was sponsored by the NBA and Reebok), a honor that was magnified by the fact that due to their high level of talent they were the only unsigned act that performed on that tour. After a brief stint performing shows on the Houston club scene, the trio decided to part ways in 2003. Following the split, Bobby and Tate decided to move away from the name Intense and reemerge as a duo under a new name that encapsulates everything about their style, their vocal talent, and their dreams. Arenbe represents their entire vision and continuous efforts of bringing what they call “feel good music”. Expect a lot of great things and a successful future, because this group is here to stay.

Posted by Dwayne On September - 6 - 2009

affil2 brothers 1 dream, that’s all you can think about when you here these 2 emcee’s flow. They passion for music is deep; they love for writing is deeper and their talent is priceless. Wil & Jason Cormier bonded by blood grew up out of Houston Texas. With just 6 years apart, Wil started writing his own rhymes at the age of 12. He recited & wrote every Ice cube lyric to the album. This is where he learned how to write a song. He began teaching his 6 year old brother how to write music as an emcee. With a sony tape player and a plastic microphone, they begin to record in their home. 18 years later, they are now known as the AFFILIATED SOLDIERZ. Working strictly underground and notice by the late DJ SCREW and other local rap labels, they were headed in the right direction. Affiliated Soldierz chose not to sign any contracts due to they wanted to be entrepreneurs in the business and learn the industry first. These brothers know how to mix music, write a complete song, understand the business, and have God given talent. Theses emcee’s needs to be in the industry…

The Houston Based Artist was interviewed by one htownclubs.com affiliates……..

Who is affiliated soldierz?

“(Lord Wil & 2cylee) 2 brothers with the same Goals trying to accomplish 1 DREAM”

How would he define your music?

“Versatile, reality music, music that comes from the soul, outerspace type of sound”

What were your influences?

“Music from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s  , when music really meant something.  And some of the artist like Ice Cube, NWA, X-clan, Rakim, Kwame, 2-Pac, Scarface, all the pioneers that started the game.”

What do you guys hope to accomplish throughout your career?

“Help others not shit on them, Teach them some of the things we learned in the game and that we don’t just make a hit record,  We can make, produce, and sell albums and people can play it back years later and see that we make hits (good music)…..knomsayn!!!”

What caused y’all to split for a second?

“Networking, trying to get our music heard all over the world, we don’t believe in settling for local, we want the nationals, we going for the Gold. We about reaching to all forms of Hip Hop and collaborating. We had seen some talented people all over America. And it motivates us even more to perfect our craft. Sometime we think we are ready and were not.  They have some dudes in the game that will run circles around you with them lyrics. So we always learning and listening to all Coast. But leaving Houston taught us a lesson and showed us a side of the game we don’t know. So when people thought we down for the count or stop making music, we were in another city learning the game and the business first.”

What advice if any do you have for people trying to get in the game?

“Stay true to yourself, and don’t let the haters knock you down, don’t give up, I repeat don’t give up. Watch and ask yourself if you doing business with someone (what can you get out of this deal, how would it benefit me in the long hall). Be Smart, you will loose sometimes but learn from your lost. And if you about making a quick dollar out of this industry, GET THE FUCK OUT OF IT!!! It doesn’t happen overnight.  PS. Don’t ever stop doing what you doing…If it’s your passion and you wake up every morning trying to GET IT RIGHT ……   THEN GO GET IT!!!!!!”

Was the journey into this music industry a tuff one and why?

“Always, and still have Far to go, if it’s easy, we wouldn’t be happy. We want to sit back one day and say to ourselves and our family. (WE MADE IT). Through all the struggle and money we spent and lost the ups and downs, the heartbreak, and the sleepless nights trying to figure out your next move.  It’s a Chess game. WE love what we do. And like we said before, our journey going through the optical to get in the game has been good to us. All and every MC dream about is TOO BE HEARD BY MANY.”

Have you ever been with a major label?

“We had meetings with the majors (Bad Boy  records & Def Jam recordings). And have good relationships with them both. Def Jam (Lenny) actually flew out here to Houston to meet with us. And Bad Boy (Conrad), we flew to New York in January of this year to meet with him. We learn a lot from them both. But people have to realize it’s a Business first. To get to them, it wasn’t no walk into the park. And they are some Heavy hittaz in the Game……. SCOE what up homie!!!”

How do you feel about the state of hip hop?

“Hip Hop Good, Hip- Hop is long jeopardy, Hip Hop will be here when we gone. It’s an ART that African Americans created. It will never die. And I’m tired of people giving Hip-Hop an Age Limit, Who and What the Fuck told somebody RAP has an AGE Limit. Yo, we don’t argue that Bruce Springsteen Isley Bros was still creating music at 50. That’s why Jay-Z still raps, because music is and ART. So for all Artists if you have the talent to still create good music, keep doing it. Hip Hop is to each its own whether you like or dislike whats going on and that’s because it’s a new change of time …  “Remember when ya mamma use to say she never knew what you was listening to back then well that’s what some people are saying about HIP HOP today!!!! HIP HOP WAS CREATED 4 US BY US.”

Where does your passion for this music game come from?

“The soul and the love of the ART. This was a GIFT that we received, studied, and ran with it.”

Do you feel that there are some people that made your journey harder? Who? How?

“No, If any person to blame, we blame ourselves”

Why?

“Because we started ground up with our music and we made our own journey. It wasn’t any handouts. We took the lil money we had and ran with it. We sacrificed everything, plus our family. But we have that much FAITH in our music. Everyone we meet on our Journey, I believed they were put in our lives for a reason. GOD works in mysterious ways.”

What’s the motivation be hind your music?

“Expressing your feelings and letting people hear and feel what the artist saying and seeing how many people actually going through the same struggle we go through. We just air out a lot of emotions for millions of people going through things in their lives.”

“MOTIVATION ….. SUCKAS BETTA GET ON YA JOB !!!!  BETTA GET ON YA JOB!!!”
