DJ Unk Suffers Heart Attack & Vows To Change Life

Posted by admin On August - 31 - 2009

djunkStories circulated around the internet that placed hit-making Atlanta disc jockey and rapper, DJ Unk, in serious condition after falling victim to a mysterious heart ailment, later revealed to be a mild heart attack. One of the leading names in Atlanta’s Jig Movement, the rapper confirmed the details through his Twitter page, also noting that his personal brush with death served as a wakeup call of sorts, leading the dance maven to pledge a healthier lifestyle for himself.

“No more Kush, Purp, Piff, Haze, Sour Diesel, for me!” Said the 26-year old table jockey and southern rhyme slinger. “No more drinks!”

In spite of the damage that may have been done to the young artist, signs may be indicating a speedy recovery, with the “Show Off” artist saying that he has reached at least 45% of his normal strength; just well enough to let his jovial nature shine through.

“No more hot wings, no fried food, no more sea food! Damn, what must I eat? Air and water?”

T PAIN PREFORMED IN HOUSTON W/HIS BIG ASS CHAIN

Posted by admin On August - 31 - 2009

tpain

T Pain and his big ass chain performed in Houston two nights ago at Venue 27 during the Red Star Soul Concert.  We kid and joke and will say that we have no idea why T Pain rocks this chain.  It might have some sort of symbolism and meaning to him that is obviously hid from the rest of world.  More power to him in his endeavors of setting black people back everywhere…

Report: Texans trade Travis Johnson

Posted by admin On August - 31 - 2009

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle is reporting that the Texans traded defensive tackle Travis Johnson to the San Diego Chargers today in exchange for a conditional draft choice – either a fifth- or sixth-round pick based on Johnson’s performance.

Per team policy, the Texans do not announce any transactions until they are official.

Johnson, a fifth-round pick in the 2005 NFL Draft out of Florida State, has been slowed by an assortment of injuries in his career with the Texans. Recently, he had surgey for a hernia and has spent most of the preseason recovering from the operation.

In four seasons, Johnson has played in 54 games with 106 tackles, two sacks and one interception. His best season came in 2007, when he had 41 tackles and five pass deflections. Last year, he played in 14 games and finished with 28 tackles and a sack.

After practice Saturday, Texans coach Gary Kubiak sounded hopeful that Johnson could suit up for tonight’s Monday Night Football matchup with Minnesota.

“He will be a game-time decision,” Kubiak said. “He looked pretty good moving around, so we’ll see where he’s at on Monday.”

Johnson returned from the sports hernia last Monday and steadily practiced more with the team each day last week. But Kubiak said Johnson would have to fight for a spot on the roster

“We need to get him back out there to get him a chance to compete for a spot on this team,” the head coach said last Monday.

Tracy McGrady “way, way ahead of schedule”

Posted by admin On August - 31 - 2009

Rockets general manager Daryl Morey was in Chicago recently, checking on the progress of Tracy McGrady. Morey told the Houston Chronicle that McGrady looked very good, and is “way, way ahead of schedule.”

“He’s already playing,” Morey said. “I don’t think anyone could have predicted he would be playing now. He still has a long way to go. There is a lot of rust to shake off.”

Of course, even if McGrady returns earlier than expected — it was originally reported that the team expected McGrady to miss the first half of the season — we don’t know what shape he’ll be in upon his return, if he’ll have the same explosiveness.

But Morey seems ready to focus on the younger players on the roster. He told columnist Richard Justice that despite the injuries to McGrady and Yao Ming, who could be out for the season, he’s excited about his team for the upcoming season.

“We’re going to be up-tempo, fun to watch, young players easy to root for,” he said. “It’s exciting. I think it’ll be fun to watch the team group up and grow together, all in a style we’re trying to move to. You’re going to see us playing the way coach would rather play.”

KNOWLES GOES BACK TO SCHOOL!

Posted by admin On August - 31 - 2009

Oh how we wish it was Beyonce going to acting school.  Or Solange going to…well…any school!  But, beginning this fall, media mogul, president and CEO of Music World Entertainment (MWE), Mathew Knowles, will be teaching a course on the campus of Texas Southern University in Houston, TX. Knowles, who graduated from fellow HBCU Fisk University in 1974 with dual degrees—a BA in Economics and a BS in Business Administration—will teach an undergraduate level course this fall entitled The Entertainment Industry through the TSU School of Communication.

“Students who take Mr. Knowles’ class will truly benefit from the many relationships forged with the School of Communication,” said Ward. “Our goal is to provide these students with such a well-rounded experience that they will graduate on the cutting edge of the entertainment and recording industry.”

“We at TSU’s School of Communication are excited to have a man of Mr. Knowles stature coming to our campus to share his insights and wisdom with young people who are interested in pursuing careers in that field,” said Dr. James Ward, dean of TSU’s School of Communication.

Along with his extensive experience in the music industry, Knowles also has experience teaching on a college campus.  He taught a course at his alma mater, Fisk University. This fall, however, Knowles will share his expertise and experience running MWE, one of the world’s leading entertainment and music conglomerates, with students at Texas Southern.

“Students who enroll in our new interdisciplinary major, Entertainment and the Recording Industry, will benefit from exposure to practicing professionals such as Mathew Knowles and exposure to our state-of-the-art recording studio housed in the KTSU Building,” stated Ward.

The Music World Entertainment empire includes record labels, films, music artist and producer management, artist development services, a master catalog series, merchandise, sports endeavors, community philanthropy work and investment and property holdings, with offices in Houston, Los Angeles, New York and London.   MWE is the brainchild of Knowles and the management behind the success of Grammy Award-winners Beyoncé and global phenomenon Destiny’s Child, the most successful “girl group” in the history of pop music.

Under the leadership of Mathew Knowles the members of Destiny’s Child; Beyoncé, Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland launched solo careers that marked international success stories.

Beyoncé’s impact in music, film and fashion is unprecedented.  The superstar has broken all time chart and sales records     Beyoncé dominated the music charts this decade with her songs spending the Most Weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, more than any other female artist.  She has the most Top 40, Top 20, Top 10 and Top 5 hit records over the past ten years and the most cumulative time spent at #1.  Beyoncé has had at least one Top 5 hit every year on the Billboard Hot 100 chart since 1998 totaling 22.  Her total career Top 40 hits are 31.   Crossing-over to film, the Golden Globe nominated actress has had 3 consecutive #1 box office hit films, “Austin Powers – Goldmember,” “The Pink Panther” and Mathew Knowles and Beyoncé are executive producers of the #1 box office hit “Obsessed” (which Beyoncé starring).   The film broke a box office record for its debut the week of release in April.   Beyoncé co-founded and built three highly successful clothing lines, House of Deréon, Deréon Girls and Ms Tina.   Co-founder, Tina Knowles and Beyoncé conceive the creative concepts and determine the direction of the ranges with Mathew Knowles serving as the head of strategic marketing.

Knowles has established several successful recording labels and joint venture partnerships with Sony Music, Interscope/Geffen and Fontana/Universal.  Music World Music initially created a joint venture with Destiny’s Child and Sony Music. The relationship expanded to Columbia Records and the parent company releasing projects with other MWE artists. Top Music World Music album releases include Destiny’s Child’s gold album This Is The Remix, Destiny’s Child’s platinum album, 8 Days of Christmas, the inspirational #1 solo debut by Michelle Williams, Heart to Yours and Solange’s debut, Solo Star. The venture released music from Nickelodeon’s popular entertainment cartoon, Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! The joint venture with Solange and Interscope/Geffen resulted in the critically acclaimed album, Sol-AngeL and the Hadley St. Dreams.

Music World Music’s faith-based and inspirational label, Spirit Rising, produced top albums in the format. The Spirit Rising roster includes top recording artist in the genre: Michelle Williams, Brian Courtney Wilson, Trin-i-tee 5:7 and Pastor Rudy Rasmus.   Notable releases on the label include Best of Gospel Superfest, the acclaimed debut album from the Detroit gospel quartet Ramiyah, Spirit Rising gospel compilation series and the Pastor Rudy Experience.

Music World Music’s popular Music World Master Series has released albums by legends Chaka Khan and The O’Jays.   A holiday collection of classic songs, Music World Master Series: Holiday, features artists, Beyoncé, Destiny’s Child, Brian Courtney Wilson and Trin-i-tee 5:7. The family oriented music label, Music World Kids has released youth projects, Krazy Kuzins, Kid’s Rap Radio and the Music World Kids CD 5-pack. MWE acquired the label, Compadre, the Country, Rock and Christian label that has a catalog of over 30 albums including works by legend Johnny Cash, Billy Joe Shaver, Trent Willmon and James McMurtry.

Along with his success as a top level manager, Knowles has negotiated mega endorsement partnerships for his clients including Samsung to announce the Beyoncé Special Edition B’Phone, American Express, Giorgio Armani Diamonds, L’Oreal, DirecTV, Verizon, Samantha Thavasa and Pepsi, McDonald’s, Vaseline and Soft Sheen. Business endeavors also involve the world of sports where Knowles is part owner of the WNBA Chicago Sky franchise.

Knowles has garnered many awards for his achievements in business and the music industry and was named the “2007 International Executive of the Year” by the Greater Houston Partnership. He received an Honorary Doctorate from his alma mater, Fisk University, and is on the Board of Governors for the Recording Academy of Texas.

Philanthropy has played an important part in the lives of The Knowles family.  Mathew Knowles, Tina Knowles, Beyoncé and Solange have established the “Survivor Foundation,” “The Knowles Rowland Center” and the “Knowles Rowland Temenos House” (St. Johns Downtown Houston).    In addition to these important projects they donate to numerous non-profit organizations throughout the world.   The concert tours have played an important part to help combat world hunger with the launch of The Beyoncé Experience Tour Food Drive, “I AM…”  Tour Food Drive and the Beyoncé Experience Global Food Drive.

Born in Gadsden, AL, Mathew Knowles originally attended the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga on a basketball scholarship before transferring to Fisk after meeting and being impressed with Fisk’s Hall of Fame basketball coach, Ronnie Lawson. He has been a staunch supporter of HBCUs ever since.

Katrina Evacuee TESST

Posted by admin On August - 29 - 2009

oprah_winfrey400The aftermath behind the slow federal response to Hurricane Katrina victims was more than enough to have showbiz bigwigs from Brad Pitt to Oprah digging in their deep pockets to lend a helping hand.
Unfortunately, four people found a way to take advantage of “Oprah’s Angel Network” charity, in which, the daytime television mogul bought new homes for evacuees to reside. The four suspects have been charged with wrongfully obtaining federal rental assistance after purchasing a home built by Oprah’s network.

Darlene McGruder Poole, 30, of Houston, and her sister, Lashona McGruder Victor, 37, of La Place, La., are charged together with conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, according to the U.S. attorney’s office in Houston.

Kiesha Murphy, 34, of Houston, and Angela Payne, aka Angela McKinnies, 38, of Houston, are charged separately with theft of government property and making false statements to the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

In a partnership with Habitat for Humanity, Oprah’s charity build and furnished homes for approximately 65 families who had been displaced and forced to relocate to Houston, Texas, as a result of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita’s irreparable damage.

“The response to natural disasters brings out the best and worst in people,” U.S. Attorney Tim Johnson said in a statement. “Generous acts of charity are tarnished by those who despite the generosity of others, fraudulently make claims for government relief funds.”

One alleges Poole submitted declarations of need for continued rental assistance after her August 2006 purchase of an Angel Lane home. Victor, meanwhile, registered with FEMA as Poole’s landlord and submitted fraudulent lease agreements and rental receipts, prosecutors charge.

Murphy and Payne are are charged with two indictments of submitting fraudulent claims for rental assistance after buying Angel Lane homes in July 2006.

Victor and Poole face up to $250,00-0 in fines and face up to 20 years in prison in convicted. Murphy and Payne, on the other hand, each face up to five years in prison for false statement charges and up to 10 years imprisonment for theft of government property and a $250,000 if convicted.
